I’ve been meaning to try Friday Tuna for over a year. I drive up and down Germantown Parkway every day but kept neglecting to venture inside that impressive brick building. I like to consider myself a connoisseur of all things sushi. It is my life’s mission to get my roll on at every sushi joint in town. If any of you are as seafood crazed as me then you’ll love Friday Tuna.
Friday Tuna is located in the heart of Cordova at the corner of Walnut Grove and Germantown Parkway. This is very important to note for all you 9-5’ers who suffer through gridlock traffic twice a day on G’town Pkwy. It just so happens that this swanky little establishment has a happy hour that will knock the pants off the worst case of road rage. From 3-6 pm all domestic beers are $1.75 and well drinks are $4. Ooo wee, if that don’t put a smile on your face I don’t know what will.
Sadly, I didn’t get to partake in the happiest of hour festivities. My mom & I dropped by mid-day to check out the lunch scene. Immediately, I was at ease with the tranquil atmosphere. I prefer to not be surrounded by a million suits screaming over the top of each other so this was right up my alley. I ordered a two roll combo that came with a ginger salad, noodles, fried rice and cucumber crawfish blend, all for only $10! It was served on a sectional tray that reminded me of high school cafeteria lunch lines minus the crazy lady with a hair net. And I know some of you out there are smiling on the inside because you may be a little obsessive about your food not touching. Well honey, it’s your lucky day!
If there are any questions about food quality, I’ll go ahead & clear that up now. It. Was. Awesome! Typically, when I think “value meal” a creepy guy in a yellow suit pops in my head along with 10lbs of fries and a Triple Bacon McArtery Clogger Deluxe. Friday Tuna somehow managed to balance incredible prices with exceptional quality. Please oh please Corporate America take notes! I did not have one thing on that massive plate that was just ok. There should’ve been something for me to complain about, but there just wasn’t. A restaurant can completely lose me based solely on their ginger dressing. Theirs was so good I used the leftover as a dipping sauce for my sushi after I demolished the salad. Then I noticed that the sushi rolls had 8 pieces instead of the usual 6. Oh it just keeps getting better. Friday Tuna had me at first bite.o
I’ll go back again very soon to check out the hibachi and maybe a little sake. I wish I had more thumbs, but until I grow another hand Friday Tuna gets two thumbs up!
