This year on my birthday my mom sent me a gift box from a company called Batch based out of Nashville. Growing up in Memphis but living in Dallas now I’m always interred in new local companies so I got on their website to see what they were all about.
When I found their website I read their mission:
Batch is hand-crafted, artisanal, local, regional, delivered. We seek fine ingredients, fine confections, fine purveyors, fine goods.
Essentially it’s the best made local good packaged and delivered. Each month our team scours off the beaten path near and far (but not that far) to bring you a tightly curated batch of goods.
Join us and discover new tastes and delights featuring new artisans, designers, chefs, bakers, and perhaps, a candlestick maker.
It all sounded pretty interesting so I did some more reading and basically Batch creates locally sourced care packages and sends them all over the country. Currently they offer care packages themed for both Memphis and Nashville (obviously I received the Memphis Batch–who wants anything from Nashville, they don’t even have an NBA team) and it appears there are a few options for how you can purchase the batches.
It seems like the preferred way you should order a batch is to order a seasonal subscription for a particular batch theme. This setup allows you to pick either Batch Memphis or Batch Nashville and the recipient will receive one package a month for four months. They let you know the categories they have planned for the particular seasonal batch, however, they don’t tell you exactly what will be in each batch ahead of time due to the “element of surprise” according to their FAQ:
Is there any way to know what’s in an upcoming Batch?
Sort of. We think one of the wonderful things about Batch (of course, we’re a little biased) is the element of surprise. We love making “discovery” possible, and as such, our monthly and seasonal Subscription Batches will remain a bit of a mystery. We’ll let you know the theme, and hopefully by seeing what has been in previous Batches you’ll be able to see the kinds of high-quality, locally-made goods that will be arriving on your doorstep.
The categories in the current Memphis batch are listed below.
The Batch Memphis seasonal subscription included four batches arriving January-April:
- Good Morning Memphis
- Sugar & Spice
- Something to Savor
- Country Roads
Then it looks like after a batch has been included in the subscription they are made available for individual sale, so there are several batches you can purchase and have shipped without the four month subscription.
I received the first batch–“Good Morning Memphis” last week and you can see the photo’s below. The batch included some granola from Yippee Hippie, Reverb coffee, and Nourishe waffle mix. It’ll be really cool to get a box of local Memphis stuff every month and I’ll update the gallery as the rest of the batches arrive in the mail. If the coming batches are like the first, it will be my first time to get to try most of this stuff (until the BBQ sauce arrives that is–I’m a pro).
The prices are around $90 for the 4 month subscirption and $30-$50 for the individual batch gift boxes.

I received the second Batch themed “Sugar and Spice” in the mail today and it was great as well. It included items from Muddy’s Bake Shop (one of our Obviously Awesome picks), Nikki’s Hot Ass, Crazy Good Specialty Foods, and # Cakes. All really great stuff.
