Sorry for the missing picks last week, there was an issue with the post that my tech expert could’t solve. The worst part for you is that the picks went 16-0, tough break. The week 15 picks went 2-1-1 with the Ravens laying an egg for the Lucas Lock of the week. Here are the picks, but I must warn you that week 17 is only for those with a strong stomach. Several games will be influenced by playoff teams resting starters. Teams that are locked into their seeds and likely to rest starters: Green Bay, Houston. Team who could be locked in as result of early games: Atlanta. Beyond that there is always the possibility of scoreboard watching and starters being rested accordingly at the end of a game and thus wreaking havoc on lines everywhere.
Detroit +3.5 over Green Bay*
Miami* -1 over NY Jets
Chicago -1 over Minnesota*
New England* -11 over Buffalo
New Orleans* -7.5 over Carolina
Philadelphia* -10 over Washington
Tennessee -3 over Houston*
Tampa Bay +12 over Atlanta*
Cincinnati* +3 over Baltimore
Denver* -3 over Kansas City
Oakland* -3 over San Diego
Seattle +3 over Arizona*
Free Money Picks
The Free Money Picks this week are presented by the NFL Draft.
Jacksonville* -3.5 over Indianapolis
The Andrew Luck sweepstakes is down to two and the Colts have the inside track. Yes they have idiotically won their last two games but certainly they have enough sense to roll over here. No sense in keeping it close and risking a young player or friend of Peyton making a play to win the game. MJD gets the rushing title and the Colts get the number one pick.
San Francisco +10.5 over St. Louis*
The Rams are the other potential Luck landing spot. They are playing at the same time as the Colts so they won’t know whether or not they still have a chance before their game. Not only will they be motivated to lose but the Niners will need to win to guarantee a first round bye.
Chicago -1 over Minnesota*
Josh McCown actually looked decent especially compared to Caleb Haney. Kahlil Bell looked awesome outside of the fumbles and Adrian Peterson is out with a brutal injury. Despite being out of the running for Luck the Vikings can lock in the three slot for the draft with a loss. This one is a gimme.
Lucas Lock of The Week
NY Giants* -2.5 over Dallas
Wow, just when I thought this was a tough week they throw one right over the heart of the plate. Bless the Cowboy fans for always pushing the line further in their favor than it should be. Breaking News: the Cowboys are garbage. You’re probably wondering how bad they could possibly be if they are playing for a division title. Well, they are 1-3 over their last four. Hey, they probably had a brutal schedule, right? Nope, the combined record of their opponents in those games is 26-34.
Let’s take a closer look at the schedule over the last six games. They are 3-3 which isn’t impressive to start then factor in the opponents and score and it’s downright sad. They had an overtime win against the Redskins (5-10) followed by a one point victory over the Dolphins (5-10) and then lost to the Cardinals (7-8). The other win during that span came against Tampa Bay who last won a game on October 16.
If there is one thing you can count on in this world it’s that the Cowboys will crap their pants in a big game, and by the way their quarterback (while expected to play) has an injured hand.
One more stat for the road: The Cowboys have one win against a team that currently owns a winning record and it came in Week two.
